Grayowl Point Review

The Decline & Fall of… was just reviewed by Grayowl Point, and they really liked it! Read the review here:

We got a Proud Hoot (Really Good) plus *swoop* (highly recommended)!

Dusk!

As promised, here’s the new Versa music video, for Dusk:

If you like it, please share it! You may download the song for free in our Discography page, or head on over to iTunes or Amazon and download the full album.

Summer of Versa

Things are really getting rolling again on the Versa front!

We’re going to be doing a mini-BC tour in July, and hopefully will have some more tour dates to announce soon. We’re heading back to the studio in June to record an EP that will be available for free this summer, as well. The official release of our third music video, for “Dusk”, will be released next week, and we’ll have a couple more music videos to release over the summer as well (for real this time, I’m not fibbing like before).

Are you excited? We are!

A little side-project news

I (Matt) will be playing a show on Friday here in Victoria with Claire Coupland as Hot Stalin – we’ll be playing a couple of Versa songs, a couple of my songs that haven’t made their way into the Versa repetoire, and a couple of covers. The show’s with Portraits of Horses, who are an absolutely lovely post-rock/folk hybrid trio, and Pocket Knife, who will be rocking the folk and bluegrass.

It’s at Solstice CafĂ© (on Pandora downtown) from 7:00-10:00, $5 at the door. Hope to see you there!

m Awards Tomorrow

We’ve been shortlisted for Victoria’s Favourite Band at this year’s m Awards.

For those of you not in the know, the m Awards are given out by Monday Magazine (Victoria’s weekly alternative newspaper – sort of our version of the Georgia Straight, for you Vancouver folk) in a whole bunch of arts and culture categories. We’re totally stoked to be nominated, and we’ll be at the awards shindig tomorrow night.

We’re up against two other great bands – Bucan Bucan and Rocky Mountain Rebel Music. Wish us luck!

Versa nominated for “Best Band” M Award!

Hey Folks,

Monday Magazine, Victoria’s popular alternative weekly rag, has nominated Versa for Best Band! You can vote for us here. There are lots of other categories, but you don’t have to fill in anything that you don’t have a nomination for (but vote for our friend Denver Jackson in the Best Filmmaker category – he filmed our CD release show in the summer, which will find its way to YouTube one of these days).

Thanks!!

CFUV and January 28

We were on CFUV, University of Victoria’s radio station, on Sunday playing a few songs and doing a short interview. You can listen to it here:

Backalley James, January 23

Also, we have a show coming up! We’re playing at Metro Studio here in Victoria on January 28th. Should be fun times – we’ll be debuting some new songs and projecting some videos and being dorks. Hope to see you there!

Weekly… Monthly… What’s the difference?

Another very nice quote found floating out there in cyberspace:
If all post-rock being put out nowadays was like this the world would be a much better place. This is a hell of an album. – Apropos of Snow blog.

Wow!

Preparations for the January 28th show continue – editing video, just finished an epic new ~20 minute long piece that we’re going to attempt, secured some additional musicians to fill out the sound (Michelle Edwards will be joining us on trumpet, and Alastair Crosby will be joining us on Cello). More details to come soon.

Another old link found trolling around on the interwub the other day:

Curiously, that isn’t a picture of us at the top of that blog entry.

Time to start getting serious about that January 28 show…

Trying to get these up weekly…

Hey kiddos,

Another update for you. Lots going on in Versa land! We’ve started rehearsing for our January 28th show at Metro Studio. It’s going to be a fun one – we’re writing a bunch of new material and will be debuting it at the show, along with some video projections. We’ll be joined by two (!) drummers, which means exponentially more awesome. Also hoping to put together a little backing band with some strings and brass and maybe some pretty ladies singing airy high things.

Do you ever Google yourself? It seems a little narcisistic, but I’ve taken to doing it lately to find out if anyone out there in the blagoblag has had a listen to our little album. Turns not many people have, but a couple people did come to and enjoy our big Alix Goolden spectacle in the summer. You can read their thoughts here:

The second post has photos, too! – I’m really glad the LCD Soundsystem cover we played for the encore was enjoyed – the house was a little dead when I asked if people knew the song.

Also in exciting Versa news: New music video! The totally gorgeous Tiffany Hannan (who you can see in our friends Les Monstres’ Terribles first music video, as well as in the smash hit local indie film ‘Samurai Cops 4′) was gracious enough to make silly faces and eat flowers for a couple of hours last weekend. I’m just editing the video now, and am hoping to have it finished in the next week or two (it’s for ‘Dusk’). A photo:
